Joshua W’s Story
Joshua was born 7 weeks early following a high risk pregnancy. He is a twin, and weighed 4lb 7. Following birth he required oxygen, incubator, tube feeding and antibiotics. At 5 days old Joshua was allowed home. It wasn’t until he was 2 years old that hearing problems were identified and then at 3 years old he received the diagnosis of verbal dyspraxia. This was later followed with the diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder at 6 years old. Joshua is currently on set number 3 of grommets for glue ear although his hearing is still not great.
Joshua struggles with moving his mouth correctly in order to form words and has a stammer so requires Speech and Language Therapy to assist him with this.
He doesn’t like being touched or in busy/crowded places but he greatly enjoys playing outside.
