Why Your Business Should Support Heel & Toe Children’s Charity

Since 2008 Heel & Toe have been providing FREE conductive education therapy to children all over the North East who have Cerebral Palsy and other physical disabilities from their centre in County Durham. The charity started with only 4 children and now helps over 200 children from all over the North East area aged between 6 months to 19 years old.

The charity has 2 centres, Pelton Centre; including five treatment rooms and a sensory room. Perkinsville Hydrotherapy Centre.

As the charity reputation has grown stronger in the therapy field, so has the demand for the services they provide. Heel & Toe also offer a range of therapies including; Block weekly intensive sessions, Hippotherapy, Hydrotherapy, Massage Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech & Language Therapy.

Heel & Toe are the only charity in the North East to provide FREE conductive education and subsidised therapies, YET receive NO government funding so we struggle to continue.

During COVID we lost over £350,000 in event revenue, the current economic climate is proving to be very challenging for Heel & Toe.

Through our work, we understand that if your child lives with a disability or has suffered from a serious injury or illness, the emotional and physical impact can be life changing. We can help you access the best medical care, rehabilitation and support.

As the largest dedicated medical negligence law firm in the North East, our specialist team has many years of experience in cases involving birth injury including cerebral palsy. We are members of the law society, AvMA and APIL clinical negligence accredited panels. We are also one of a select group of law firms who hold a Legal Aid Franchise to support funding of cases in birth injury claims. This means you’ll receive full funding for an investigation into your case, and subsequent legal representation.

In addition to our medical negligence team we also have dedicated Support and Rehabilitation Coordinators who work alongside us. They’re available to provide advice and support to all of our clients. They also provide links to local support networks and offer practical day-to-day advice for families. We have strong working relationships with wider professionals both within the firm including Public Law specialists, Educational Law specialists and Family Law experts, as well as, externally, in relation to care and rehabilitation to ensure families are supported at every stage of their case and beyond.

‘As head of Newcastle’s medical negligence team I am so proud to support the amazing work of Heel & Toe and provide the necessary legal advice to the families parents and carers. My team, including Samuel, Alexis and Lindsay, will stop at nothing to ensure all avenues are explored and the family get the answers needed.’ – Sarah Coles.

Slater & Gordon

Slater and Gordon is proud and delighted to be able to support the Heel and Toe Charity.

We believe the work Heel and Toe do is hugely important as it enables children with cerebral palsy and their families to access vital early support by way of assessment and treatment, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, conductive education and hydrotherapy.

Access to this support, which would otherwise be out of reach for many families, is essential to help those affected by cerebral palsy meet their full potential and lead as much of an independent life as possible.

Head of Medical Negligence Manchester and Newcastle, Ben Gent says: “The work done by Heel and Toe and their determination to succeed against the odds, and without statutory funding, is nothing short of astonishing. We admire the charity’s achievements, share their values, and are delighted to commit to supporting them.

“Slater and Gordon has a long history of supporting children, and families of children, with cerebral palsy and other physical and neurological disabilities. We’re dedicated to ensuring those who Heel and Toe support get the additional legal support they need, whether that is trying to find answers about medical care, offering help with benefits or working towards securing compensation. We hope our continued support for this outstanding charity will help them to reach even more children and families in need.

“We’re very excited to support the charity in their 2022 fundraising events; All Ability Bike Ride, Hadrian’s Wall Challenge, Superhero Sponsored Walk, Great North Run and the Gala Ball, and look forward to working with and supporting the charity for years to come.”

Stanley Travel

Andrew has been a supporter and Ambassador of Heel & Toe since 2012. He got involved after I approached Andrew to ask if he had a dedicated charity. Heel & Toe have been their chosen charity ever since. Andrew has personally fundraised by doing a number of marathons for us, as well as getting his son Gavin to do the GNR and daughter Megan to do a zipslide.

They have raised over £6,000 since becoming a charity partner.
He supports our Golf Day every year by putting a team in and also sponsors our Champagne Reception at our Annual Ball. Stanley Travel provide us with a free coach every year for our Christmas Coach Trip, as well as reduced costs for coaches to support events such as the Coast to Coast.

“Heel and Toe has been our charity of choice for a number of years now. At Stanley Travel our aim is to raise awareness and fundraise for the charity within our local region. The services offered include free conductive education, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. I’m personally privileged as an Ambassador of Heel and Toe to help spread the word of all the fantastic work they do in offering services for children and young adults with cerebral palsy. In addition to this, the Charity offers a professional listening ear to families and individuals who at times are often over-whelmed by the challenges that they face.”
